Learning and Teaching Experience...By Malinda Tsosie

  1. My teaching experience is going well thus far. I have a wonderful mentor teacher that is teaching me alot. I have learned a lot being in the classroom these few weeks. The students are fabulous as well, and they keep me on my toes throughout the day...I feel like I still have so much to learn and it seems like it's going by too fast. It is a different teaching experience from other programs like HeadStart and EHS. I am glad I had the opportunity to do my student teaching at this school. And thanks to my two wonderful children for encouraging me to not give up and supporting me in every way.
  2. Going back to school was hard and challenging for me at first because I had a full time job, family, babysitters, evening classes and time management. I am thankful for all the professors that taught me at NTU. And thank you Dr. Tom for giving me that motivation to finish my class this semester.
  3. After getting my degree, I plan to take my certification in the summer and to work in the school district in the near future where it is closer to home and family. I also plan on taking a break from school, at least one or two semesters. Then I planned to continue my education with NAU for my master's degree in special education.

Learning and Teaching Experience....By Jeredine Thompson

My experience in the Early Childhood Program with NTU so far has been wonderful. I appreciate all my past and present instructors whom I have gained so much knowledge from. I have such incredible professors that have inspired me to complete my degree and to go out in the world to teach our up and coming new generations.I am so thankful for NTU. I love that I can come to school and not have to commute so far from home. I have always been proud of our school because it is educating our indigenous community and our future leaders. I am proud to say that I am a product of NTU. My future goals are to complete my degree and go on to graduate school. I hope to one day become a special Education teacher and work with our blessed students. Thank you very much to the faculty and administrators here at NTU who diligently work to empower our people.

My experience with NTU has been wonderful. I enjoy that NTU has great communication and I am currently for filling my student teacher experience. It has been an amazing opportunity and I am learning a lot both in the classroom and with the professor for early childhood. I enjoy my time with the children in the classroom and also getting to know the staff. Within the class instruction I like that we as a class get to have discussions on important early childhood issues and read one another’s responses. I am very glad I picked NTU.

My experience being a student teacher at Pinon Community School is a great experience for me, I meet all the Kindergarten Teachers, the interventionist, sped teacher, and all the staff, they are great people. The students there are great learners they are so engaged in learning new things very day. I got to learn all their names and their personalities who they are, and what they like and don't like. I really enjoy being a student teacher and my goal is to apply there as a full time teacher.

Being a student at NTU as been my best years of my life, it gave me courage, hope, and opened up great opportunities for me, I am glad that I am going to school at NTU and I am going to graduate from here in May of 2023 with my bachelors degree.

My goals for the future is to graduate this spring of 2023, pass my teacher's certification, become a full time teacher, be employed with the school I am doing my student teaching and continue my education.

Learning and Teaching Experience... By Shasheena Jones

 Greetings,

I like to introduce myself to you. My name is Shasheena Jones, Sh7d0one’e e7 Táchii'nii, Tábąąhá, Tł 'ááshch77', Áshįįhi. I am from Rock Point. I am a mother of 4 beautiful children. Currently, I am enrolled in the Early Childhood program at Navajo Technical University. The Navajo Head Start program heavily inspired me as a parent. Getting involved with my daughter’s education made me want to become a teacher. Having to hear the lack of teacher’s position with in the program got me inspired to provide my teaching skills around the young Head Start students. Participating in meetings, and events that were held with emerging generations was my favorite part. Taking part in young children’s education, I found myself enjoying being a part of their learning. Working in a field of education, understanding the processes and methods of teaching and learning in preschools and schools. I gained experience assisting with Navajo Head Start children. I am eager to learn more about learning structures in early childhood. I see myself furthering my degree to become a teacher. I would highly recommend Cherly Tom instructor. I am delighted to take her classes to discover her teachings are well taught, for the purpose of early childhood. Specifically, I appreciated her ability to maintain the progression of a discussion over the course. I was extremely appreciative of Ms. Tom's helpfulness and openness during one-on-one meetings. NTU has been a great experience, and I am happy to be a part of the early childhood program.

Learning and Teaching Experience ...By Lorlene Smith

My early childhood experience has been a roller coaster. We have good days and bad days, but I still look forward to teaching what I know and at the same time gaining more experience. I have

been in school for 4 years, 2 years for my associates degree and 2 years for my bachelor's degree. And I have been working within the school for 6 months and It has been great. Everything I learned in class is everything I teach in a classroom. I didn’t understand some things but after taking classes It became easier to understand how my students learn and how I can better teach them.

NTU is a great university, and it has helped me to pursue my degree in becoming a teacher. I work as a teacher’s assistant, and I am working my way up into becoming a teacher. I take classes and I work, I love the fact that these classes are opening a lot of doors for  me to learn in person.  My future goal is to become a teacher within Chinle district. I know there are teachers needed and those are opportunities that I look forward to.
